Project overview
The group runs four physiotherapy clinics. Patients booked by phone and received home exercises on printed sheets that were easily lost.
They wanted one app for booking and home exercise programmes, connected to their practice management system.
Paper exercises and phone bookings
Three problems affected patient outcomes:
Low exercise completion
Printed exercise sheets were forgotten between sessions.
Phone-only booking
Patients had to call during opening hours to book or change appointments.
No reminders
Missed appointments disrupted treatment plans.
What success looked like
- Let patients book and manage appointmentsin the app.
- Improve exercise plan completionwith video and reminders.
- Launch on iOS and Androidwithin four months.
Our approach, step by step
- 1
Discovery Weeks 1–2
Workshops with physios and patients to define the core journeys.
- 2
Design Weeks 3–5
Designed accessible screens for booking, exercise videos and progress tracking.
- 3
Build Weeks 5–12
Built one cross-platform app with a secure back end connected to the practice system.
- 4
Test and launch Weeks 12–14
Beta testing with patients, app store submission and staff training.
Results six months after launch
App performance six months after launch vs the original targets.
| Metric | Target | Result | vs target |
|---|---|---|---|
| App store rating | 4.5★ | 4.8★ | ▲ 0.3 |
| Patients using the app | 40% | 62% | ▲ 22 pts |
| Exercise plan completion | +15% | +29% | ▲ 14 pts |
| Bookings made in-app | 30% | 44% | ▲ 14 pts |
The results
Patient adoption grew steadily as clinicians introduced the app at first appointments.
“Patients love having their exercises on their phone, and our clinicians can see who's keeping up.”
